Anaphylaxis

Protocol Steps

   CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY

2. 2

   Stop the infusion — discard current bag, hang new saline (no additives) through existing IV line

3. 3

   Administer epinephrine 0.3mg IM (auto-injector) to outer thigh

4. 4

   Place patient supine with legs elevated (unless respiratory distress)

5. 5

   Monitor airway — be prepared to assist ventilation

6. 6

   Start high-flow oxygen if available

7. 7

   Note time of epinephrine administration for EMS

8. 8

   Second dose of epinephrine after 5 minutes if no improvement

9. 9

   Stay with patient until EMS arrives — do not leave unattended
